Joana Bernd, Blending in, 2022

"Blending In" is a photographic series that examines the relationship between humans and the natural world. The series features images of the artist blending into various arranged natural objects using their shadow to complete the shapes of the objects and adapt to their surroundings. Through this process, the artist seeks to challenge the patriarchal idea of standing out and instead promotes the concept of blending in and harmonizing with the natural world. The series aims to inspire viewers to consider the ways in which we can move away from damaging notions of hierarchy, power, and dominance and towards a more respectful and sustainable relationship with the earth. The photographs invite us to think about the impact we have on the environment and the ways in which we can work to protect and preserve the natural world for future generations.
