Coline Le Quenven, Reliques of the Plasticene (2022)

Plastic waste, PLA, rPET, stone, glue and copper., 25x21x11cm and 21x11x4cm

Crafted from locally sourced plastic waste, these artefacts of the Anthropocene are dystopian witnesses of plastic entering our environment and becoming an integral part of Earth’s geology. These shell relics are intricate and precious. The techniques developed and utilised for these pieces are a combination of tradition and modernity. Using 3D printing and a 3D pen to mimic ancient crafts such as woodturning or goldsmithing, I aim to restore a sense of preciousness to a material with which we share the most complex relationship.
